Life in Holst’s Victorian Home

"What an excellent visit! It was great to have a hands-on experience with a real-life maid.
Highly recommended"
Lakeside Primary, Cheltenham. Y5

Children are greeted by the Holst family maid, Julia Giles, who tells them about the work of a scullery maid in a Victorian home. They learn about household tasks in the cosy kitchen in front of the fire. She introduces them to the family of Gustav Holst and his early life. The ‘downstairs’ experience includes the opportunity for children to perform chores in period room settings in costume, whilst ‘upstairs’ they see how the family lived, with the chance to play with the toys in the nursery.
